I opened the back of my float carefully. It was kinda new, and I didn't want to wreck it already. Jed turned his head to look at me curiously. I smiled. "Hey pretty boy," I cooed to him, undoing the tail gate and swinging it open. I ducked under the bar on the other side and through the partition, stroking Jed's nose and then untying him. "Back up," I said to him, ducking under the breast bar to follow him down the ramp. Outside, Jed pricked his ears and looked around, his nostrils flaring as he took in his new surroundings. I led him to the side of the float and piled his saddle blanket, saddle, folded up rug and bridle onto his back. He was used to me using him as a pack horse, so he didn't even flinch. I grabbed a couple of other things and then led him into the barn, finding the fourth stall and putting him in it. I lifted everything off his back and undid his halter, then tied his hay-net to the side of the stall. "Good boy," I smiled, filling his water bucket and then going off to find a tack room for all of his things.
